Sushi Row (thesushirow.com) is an independent, ad-free history site. We collect as little as possible, we don't sell your data, and we don't run advertising trackers. This page explains what we do collect and your choices.
01Who we are
thesushirow.com is operated by Wisetechy Solutions ("we," "us"). Questions or privacy requests: stories@thesushirow.com.
02What we collect
- Site & security logs. Our host/CDN, Cloudflare, processes standard request data (e.g., IP address, browser/user-agent, pages requested, timestamps) to serve and protect the site. This is routine for any website.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics (active). Cloudflare measures aggregate traffic for this site using its privacy-first Web Analytics, enabled at the network level and injected automatically into our pages. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint you, and does not track you across sites — it reports page-level aggregates (pages viewed, referrer, country, device type) only.
- Google Analytics 4 (active). Google Analytics 4 is enabled on this site (measurement ID G-6MYT8NRBVT). It sets analytics cookies (e.g., _ga) and processes usage data (pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser) to help us understand traffic. GA4 does not log or store full IP addresses — IP masking is applied automatically — and we do not enable Google Signals, advertising, or remarketing features. If you'd rather not be measured: we honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. When your browser sends either signal, our analytics script stops before it starts — no Google script is loaded, no cookie is set, and no data is sent. A content blocker works too, and the site is fully functional either way.
- If you submit material — through our restaurant intake form (/intake), the Archive story/correction desk on the main site, or by contacting us: the details, stories, and corrections you choose to provide, which may include your name (optional), how you'd like to be credited, any source you cite, and an optional follow-up contact (email or phone). Submissions are stored with our infrastructure provider, Cloudflare (in a Cloudflare D1 database), for human review before anything is published. Your contact info is used only to follow up and is never published.
- Abuse prevention. To rate-limit submissions, we store a hashed, salted version of your IP for a short, auto-expiring window — never your raw IP.
03How we use it
- To operate, secure, and improve the site, and to understand aggregate traffic.
- To reply to you if you reach out.
- We do not run advertising, sell or "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, or build profiles of you.
04Cookies
We set no cookies of our own, and we use no advertising cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics sets no cookies. Google Analytics 4 sets first-party analytics cookies — typically _ga and _ga_G-6MYT8NRBVT, which Google sets to expire about two years after your last visit — used to count returning visitors. You can block or clear them at any time with no loss of functionality, and if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track we never load Google's script at all, so no cookie is set in the first place.
05Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, security, form-submission storage (D1 database), and email routing; its analytics product is present but not active, as noted in §02 (privacy policy).
- Google — Google Analytics 4, for aggregate traffic measurement (privacy policy).
- Cloudflare Email Routing — delivers intake notifications to our inbox (we use no third-party email provider).
06Retention
Analytics data is retained per each provider's settings. Messages you send are kept only as long as needed and purged within 12 months if not used. The hashed-IP rate-limit counter expires automatically within hours.
07Your privacy rights
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of any sale or sharing — and we do not sell or share personal information. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. To make a request, email stories@thesushirow.com; we may need to verify your request.
Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you and request its deletion at the same address.
08Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
09Security & location
The site is served over HTTPS with hardened security headers and a strict Content-Security-Policy, and we minimize what we collect. Anything you submit to us is stored in the United States. Our providers operate global networks: Cloudflare serves the site from the edge location nearest you, and Google may process analytics data on its infrastructure outside the United States. See their policies linked in §05.
10Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and revise the effective date above.
11Affiliation & trademarks
Sushi Row is an independent, non-commercial history project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any restaurant or chef it documents, or by any “Sushi Row”–branded restaurant or business. Restaurant and chef names are used descriptively to report a factual history; all trademarks and names are the property of their respective owners. Facts carry confidence labels and may be incomplete or wrong—corrections are welcome at stories@thesushirow.com.
